The STAR Model integrates intelligent planning with proactive doing to allow peak performance.  Planning involves defining and communicating a strong strategy and sound tactics.  Doing is all about taking intelligent action and getting the desired results.  Excelling in the process of both planning and doing is what it takes to achieve STAR Performance.

STRATEGY
This leadership process begins with a strategy that defines the Three Ps™ of Strategy:
  • PURPOSE that identifies our "Why"
  • PRINCIPLES that establish non-negotiable values governing our operation
  • PASSION - built on an inspiring vision for the future

TACTICS
The STAR Model continues with a tactical plan that combines preparation, planning, and prioritization - The Three Ps™ of Tactics:
  • PREPARE - get ready for the action that is needed
  • PLAN - develop specific programs or operations that define how the mission will be accomplished (including measurable goals and milestones)
  • PRIORITIZE - first things first; knowing what's important, and what's not

ACTION
Execution requires action.  Planning is critical to making the best use of your time, yet all the planning in the world won't get anything accomplished.  You have to act if you want to achieve.  "STAR Performance" details this action in terms of practice, persistence, and perspiration.
  • PRACTICE is both the act of rehearsing the plan and participating in the action
  • PERSISTENCE is grit, or the steadfast dedication to the mission, even in the face of adversity
  • PERSPIRATION is simply diligent, focused hard work

RESULTS
Getting the desired results requires action towards a sound tactical plan that is built upon the foundation of a strong strategy.  To get great results you need patience, productivity, and probing.
  • PATIENCE is about having realistic expectations
  • PRODUCTIVITY is the ability to bring forth goods or services - the execution of the vision
  • PROBING is simply honest introspection while monitoring your progress - it involves asking the tough questions, and implementing corrective action when necessary
